In the Sunday New York Times

To the Editor:

We should not encourage lawmakers to decide where they stand on critical issues based on political expediency. Yet David Brooks tells Democrats that they should support a ban on later-term abortions to improve their chances in upcoming elections.

Real leaders stand for their values regardless of the politics. The constitutional right to abortion is based on the understanding that women must have the freedom to decide this most personal and private matter themselves, relying on consultation with their families and their doctors. Politics doesn’t belong in the bedroom or the doctor’s office.
